A FINE AND RARE CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL 'REEVE'S PATENT', serial no. 450,
conforming to patent 1623 of July 19, 1858, with 6in. octagonal barrel (strong traces of original finish), dove-tailed fore-sight, the top-strap signed 'REEVE'S PATENT IMPROVED DOUBLE-ACTION' within a scrolled border, standing notch back-sight to rear, borderline engraved plain five-shot cylinder with rope-carved band to leading edge (traces of colour), borderline and scroll engraved solid frame with dove-tailed side-plate, long-spurred hammer, chequered one-piece semi saw-handled walnut grip, border and scroll engraved loading lever mounted to left hand side of barrel and special quick thread release for cylinder arbor, complete with a period walnut storage case compartmented and lined in green baize and containing an oil bottle, nipple-key, a rare crank-topped powder-flask by James Dixon, a Tranter's Patent bullet mould (from another), a tin for balls, a tin for lubricating compound and a mahogany loading or cleaning rod (lock missing from case)
